We are the Nursing Team based at Carden Medical Centre. There are currently 3 nurses, Aileen, Sheila, and Nicole.
Some of the procedures we undertake include phlebotomy, dressings, blood pressure, cervical smears, swabs, monitoring warfarin, injections, ear syringing, ECG’s , adult immunisations, cryotherapy, assist GP with minor surgery and foreign travel advice and immunisations.
Aileen and Sheila also run diabetic, secondary heart prevention and airways clinics.
We soon hope to have a Health Care Assistant in post who will be able to take blood, do heights, weights, blood pressures and ECG’s.
We take great pride in providing our patients with a professional and confidential service.
The practice is very fortunate in having a dedicated team of receptionist and administrative staff. They are responsible for ensuring that the business of providing care is delivered to the very highest of standards. It is not just the face to face with the health care team that is important, the mechanisms, protocols and systems that underpin this are vital to ensure the patient journey runs as smoothly as possible.
Ann Smith attends the surgery on a regular weekly basis and monitors all
issues that pertain to practice prescribing.

There is a large medical school at Aberdeen University and during their
training the students are attached to a General Practices for a month. We
have three or four students a year. At the start of their stay the students
will be sitting in the consulting room watching the doctor working. Once
they have some experience then we may ask you to speak to the student first,
then the doctor will come in and see you.

Students from Robert Gordon University are attached to community and hospital nursing teams as part of their training. They work mainly with the community team but may also sit in with the GP or Practice Nurse.
We will always ask if you mind having a student present when you see the
doctor/nurse. If you are not happy then the student will leave. Do not
hesitate to tell us. We know it can be difficult to speak to the
doctor/nurse when someone else is there.

On a regular basis the practice helps with the training of individuals who
are to be responsible for the health and welfare of hundreds of men and
women who work offshore. Clearly if you are not happy with this the student
would leave.
