What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of skeletal and muscular injuries (bone, nerve, ligaments and joint).
How do we treat?
The Osteopath takes a detailed assessment (history and examination) in order to make a clinical diagnosis and select the appropriate treatment.
Treatment
May consist of the following modalities
- Soft tissue techniques, massage, deep tissue, trigger point, muscle energy technique to loosen stiff muscles.
- Mobilisation: a more gentle technique to loosen stiff joints and ease painful joints.
- Manipulation: a high velocity thrust technique used to loosen a stiff joint.
- Gentle spinal traction.
- Rehabilitation and preventative work in the form of exercises.
What conditions do we treat?
- Neck and back disorders including herniated discs, joint degeneration, sciatica, lumbago, stiff/painful spine and referred leg and arm nerve pain.
- Sports and soft tissue injuries: strains, sprains and bruising of soft tissue ie muscle, ligaments, nerve and tendon.
- Repetitive strain and overuse injury plus other work related injuries.
- Postural dysfunction: correction of postural problems and muscle imbalance.
